At Heanor Swimming Club teach a wide range of lifesaving awards. We have forged links with two clubs
that offer 'Open Water (Lake)' experience to our members including the opportunity for qualification awards.
Youngsters are able to work towards achieving basic Lifesaving awards such as the Bronze Medallion,
(which incidentally can contribute towards both GCSE Sports Studies practical grades and the Duke of Edinburgh Award).
Other higher awards lead towards the Pool Lifeguard qualification, which can enable employment.
Lifesaving is a growing sport, soon to be seen in the Olympic Games. Competitions are held all over the country
at club, branch, regional, national and international levels.
Heanor Swimming Club looks to broaden youngster's horizons and we travel around the UK to compete
in a variety of swimming events and more particularly Lifesaving competitions.
We have a regular programme of club competitions and operate teams from under 10 years to Masters
and always have club members competing for the East Midlands Region at the RLSS UK National Lifesaving,
RLSS National Speed Championships, National SLSA Stillwater Championships
and the National SLSA Wales Stillwater Championships.
Whatever age or ability you are there will be competitions throughout the year in which you can compete.
We currently run two Fun Galas where our members and coaches get a chance to compete against each
other in several fun events. We also compete each year at a beach-based Lifesaving event in Northumberland
and a lake based fun day at Bosworth Water.
Probably one of the highlights of the club year is our annual Heanor 'Classic' Lifesaving Open held each May.
Many Lifesaving Clubs and Universities from all over the UK compete against us at our home pool
bringing with them over 200 competitors. |
